- The very first electric streetcar system began in Montgomery, Alabama on April 15, 1886.

- America’s first Mardi Gras took place in 1703 in Mobile, Alabama. Not in New Orleans, Louisiana.

- Alabama is home to the only city in the United States with an all-water mail route - Magnolia Springs.

- Alabama is home to Vulcan (Birmingham), the world’s largest cast-iron statue. This massive statue is 56 feet tall and weighs more than 100,000 pounds.

- The inventor of the windshield wipers, Mary Elizabeth Anderson, was from Alabama. They were invented in 1902.

- The only confirmed person in history to have been struck by a meteorite and survive was Ann Hodges. This happened in Oak Grove, Alabama on November 30, 1954. The meteorite is currently on display at the Alabama Museum of Natural History in Tuscaloosa.
