They are now offering free Wi-Fi access in every room, which is rare in a retro motel.
Built in 1946, the Munger Moss Motel is one of the few remaining “mom and pop” motels on Route 66. It has been owned and managed by Bob and Ramona Lehman since 1971.

- Boots Court, Carthage
Flickr/ Marion Brite For a true old fashioned experience, Boots Court recently reopened for guests in 2012 after being closed for over 20 years. The available rooms are located in the section of the motel that was built in 1946, including a room where Clark Gable once stayed! Their goal is to give travelers an authentic early motel experience as if travelling Route 66 or Route 71 in the 1940s.
And they aren’t kidding about authentic. In 1939, the Boots advertised “a radio in every room,” so they still do provide a radio. However, there are no televisions in the rooms, and the 1949 Zenith TV in the office is purely decorative. No need to panic! They do provide wireless internet in all rooms as it doesn’t impact the historic experience.
All of the pillows are feather but they will replace them with hypo-allergenic ones if you have an allergy. In addition, due to the size of the bathrooms, the rooms are not wheelchair accessible. 107 S Garrison Ave, Carthage, MO 64836, USA

There’s nothing like a morning sitting on the patio with a good cup of coffee and looking out over the scintillating lake and lush trees.
What are the best Bed & Breakfasts in Missouri?
Missouri has a ton of lovely inns and B&Bs for any style and budget. The Old Caledonian Bed & Breakfast is located in the tiny, idyllic town of Caledonia and is simply stunning. The breakfast includes hand-cranked sausages and the place smokes and cures its own bacon and ham. A lovely afternoon tea is also available. How about a bucolic farm stay with cheese, wine, and sweet farm animals to meet? The Brinkman Farmstead Bed & Breakfast in Owensville makes its own cheeses and is in the middle of wine country. The farm’s animals are as cute as can be!
