You’ve probably heard of towns and cities with funny names in Florida like Hollywood or Weeki Wachee, but what about New York, Bagdad, or even Fluffy Landing? There is no shortage of funny Florida town names so let’s celebrate our Floridian weirdness with a tribute to some wacky wild towns in Florida. Here’s a list of some places in Florida with names that are sure to make you giggle.

  1. Two Egg, FL

stefano/Flickr This unincorporated community in Jackson County, FL, is said to have gotten its name during the Great Depression when residents didn’t have money but would often trade for “two eggs.”

  1. Niceville, FL

Sam Howzit/Flickr Niceville used to be named Boggy, and it’s now the home of the annual Boggy Bayou Mullet Festival.

  1. Couch, FL

Anna Majkowska/Flickr I wonder if everyone here is always finding a lot of loose change.

  1. Dogtown, FL

istolethetv/Flickr Even the mailman is a dog in Dogtown (just kidding).

  1. Mayo, FL

Mark Hillary/Flickr This is a little town with just over 1,000 people in Lafayette County.

  1. Lulu, FL

Jim, the Photographer/Flickr The community of Lulu is made up of a small population that still resides in what is mostly a ghost town. The story, which is hard to verify, is that the postmaster named the town after his girlfriend because its previous name was getting confused with that of another town.

  1. Doctor’s Inlet, FL

Waldo Jaquith/Flickr This is a small community in Clay County, FL.

  1. Okahumpka, FL

Todd Van Hoosear/Flickr This “census-designated place” in Lake County had only 251 people in 2000.

  1. Ocheesee, FL

Finite Focus/Flickr Ocheesee was the site of the longest action of the Seminole War. On a lighter note, it now provides the perfect name for the Ocheesee Creamery.

  1. Briny Breezes, FL

Chris Dick/Flickr This town in Palm Beach County used to be full of tourist rentals, but the owner sold the land to the members of the community in 1958 so he could retire. If you’ve ever seen the movie In Her Shoes, you will recognize this town as a classic Florida retired community.

  1. Dinner Island, FL

ilovebutter/Flickr Is it called Dinner Island because of all the great fishing and hunting available? Just an idea, but it seems possible. Or, it’s simply a nice charming town to swing by for a romantic dinner with that special someone.

  1. Sopchoppy, FL

Capital City to the Sea Trail/Flickr This city in Wakulla County started out as Lockchoppe, from the Muskogee words meaning acorn stem, but somehow became Sopchoppy, and never looked back. In 2004, the population was 465, and it’s home to the annual Worm Grunting Festival.

  1. Panacea, FL

Florida Fish and Wildlife/Flickr Maybe a vacation in Panacea will cure what ails you? Try a dip in the Panacea Mineral Springs, long touted for its healing properties.

  1. Yeehaw Junction, FL

Marcus Quigmire/Flickr Yeehaw Junction is a pretty great name, but its previous name was even funnier. Town historians will tell you, this census-designated place in Osceola County used to be named Jackass Junction or Jackass Crossing for the burro-riding ranchers who would visit the Desert Inn, which was then a brothel. It was renamed when the Florida Turnpike was built through the town, and yeehaw, the Seminole word for “wolf” was chosen.

  1. Christmas, FL

jared422/Flickr Christmas may be a small town, but it’s home to the world’s largest gator, Swampy. This huge building is part of Jungle Adventures Nature Animal Park. Other attractions include Fort Christmas Historical Park and the Fort Christmas Folk School, a nonprofit dedicated to teaching folk art.
