Today’s adventure takes us out to St. Joe NF Trail 17, a decent-sized hike out in the forest with an overlook you can’t ignore. If you love the beauty of Idaho, this is a trail you’ll want to consider taking.

The 4.3-mile, out-and-back trail is rated easy, but as a warning, there is quite a bit of elevation gain. It’s not too much trouble when you get down to it, but 1,000 feet of elevation gain is no small feat.

The path winds in and out of the forest, across a couple of bridges, and through the trees. It’s a great spot for wildlife spotting, but make sure you’re aware of how to hike in bear country.
