A fresh snowfall transforms the landscape into a breathtaking winter wonderland. Can you think of anything more serene, after all, than looking out of the window at the freshly-fallen snow, before human footprints and tires make their mark? Everything is so still and so quiet, except for the animals, like deer, prancing in the fresh powder. After a snowfall, make your way to what might be one of Rhode Island’s snowiest towns… just be sure to bring along your warmest winter travel essentials!
Rhode Island’s certainly no stranger to snow; however, some towns experience quite a bit more than others. Averaging more than 50 inches a year, Foster is one of the snowiest towns in Rhode Island.

Good thing, too, because it’s a beautiful daytrip or weekend getaway destination any time of the year, especially if you love the outdoors.

Start your winter adventure by driving to Jerimoth Hill in Foster, the highest point in Rhode Island. Look for the sign on the side of the road that alerts you that you’ve arrived.

However, you’re not there yet. To reach the spot that marks Rhode Island’s highest point, which is 811 feet, follow a short but sweet trail. It’s even prettier when sprinkled with snow.

Foster’s also home to the lone covered bridge in Rhode Island. Even if you’ve seen it before, it’s worth the effort to go when it’s coated in snow.

A chilly day of exploring is just meant to be followed by a delicious, hot meal. Stop by Shady Acres for a hearty meal. It dishes up a variety of favorites – from meatloaf to burgers.
