Al Costello had a dream he turned into reality – he opened up Al’s State Street Cafe on South Street in Boston over a decade ago. Since then, three other locations have been opened around the city.

The sub sandwiches at Al’s are massive! A small isn’t small at all at about 10 inches while a large is a foot and a half. You’ll need to bring your appetite to this sandwich shop or prepare to share with a friend.

Choose either hot sub like the Sicilian steak, South Street Cafe Chicken, Chicken Eggplant Parmesan, or the vegetarian, among others. You can add extra toppings if you choose.

And then there are cold gourmet subs like the honey ham, oven roasted turkey, albacore tuna, and chicken salad.

One other thing Al’s is known for is its Bag Lunch which includes a small sub, a bag of chips, and a soda. And it’s priced at just over $10, which is very affordable in the city of Boston.
