Algoma, pop. 3,100. is located in Kewaunee County, right on the western shore of Lake Michigan. It’s a walkable town with many older businesses and Victorian-style homes. If you take an early morning walk, you’ll be treated to a gorgeous sunrise.

Algoma is a longtime fishing town. European settlers founded the city in the 1800s and by the early 1900s, it had the largest commercial fishing fleet on Lake Michigan. It’s still a big fishing town – charters take visitors out for days of offshore action.

There are many lively events held in Algoma throughout the year, including the Soar on the Shore Kite and Beach Festival – the lake breezes send colorful kites aloft and it’s fun for all ages. Bring your camera!

If you’re a biker, you’ll love Algoma. There’s a gorgeous state bike path that will take you all the way into Door County. The 48-mile Ahnapee State Trail traces the paths of the Ahnapee and Kewaunee Rivers.

Algoma has a number of great attractions, including a picturesque lighthouse. The Pierhead Lighthouse has been keeping boats safe since the 1800s and “The Lady In Red” is the perfect backdrop for a photo.
