Arizona Is The Place To Be For Christmas October 18, 2022 William Suphan What are Arizona’s best Christmas towns? Whether you head to the northern forests or keep to the heat of the desert, Arizona’s towns will delight you with holiday cheer. In the northern part of the state, Flagstaff is the ultimate Christmas destination as it becomes a winter wonderland with lighted tall pine trees, a North Pole Experience to Santa’s Workshop, and stupendous light displays. Down in Tucson, dazzling light displays shine throughout Tohono Chul Park and the popular Winterhaven neighborhood, and the Christmas Parade is a local favorite. What are the best winter festivals in Arizona? Arizona has a ton of festive winter festivals that will bring the whole family together for some festive fun. The Tamale Festival in Somerton may not sound like a holiday festival, but here in Arizona, tamales are a Christmas tradition, and you can get your fill of them here. Regardless of the amount of spicy heat you prefer, you’ll find something to suit your tastes. Kingman hosts Santa’s Hualapai Wonderland where your family can sip hot cocoa, take a fun hay ride, and enjoy the festivities surrounded by utterly beautiful pine trees. For a taste of Native American Culture, the Heard Museum in Phoenix holds the annual Holidays at the Heard, where you can see a mixture of Native American art, live performances, and holiday decorations. Be sure to try the fry bread! What makes Christmas in Arizona so unique? Since there’s so much desert and a mix of cultures here, Arizona has some unique and wonderful ways to enjoy the holidays. Rather than ham or turkey, we scarf down a mountain of fresh tamales and if you are fortunate enough to be in a Mexican home, you will not leave until you are stuffed full of them and given some to take home with you. Yes, we decorate Christmas trees like everyone else, but we also have a whimsical bit of desert fun with our Tumbleweed Christmas Tree in Chandler. We never have to go very far to see tumbleweeds, so we may as well make them festive!
