As you stroll the grounds and take a look at everything, you’ll hardly feel like you’re in present-day Glendale. Instead, you’ll swear you’ve traveled back to much simpler times, long before the area was a bustling cog in the metro Phoenix machine.

The park is enough of a hidden gem at face value, but it’s hiding a secret that you’ll have to see to believe.

What is that secret? Peacocks! Not just one or two, either. A whopping 40 of the colorful birds roam freely throughout the grounds of Sahuaro Ranch Park and they’re always eager to meet new people.

Descendants of three peacocks purchased at the Chicago World’s Fair in 1933, these majestic creatures have called the ranch home for nearly a century. When they spread their tail feathers, you can’t help but gaze in awe at the astonishing display.

Locals have quite a bit of affection for the quirky and beautiful creatures. There’s even a mural in the park dedicated to them!
