We love our small towns in Utah. While some are certainly more well-known and lively than others, there are many that are the perfect destination when you are searching for a little peace and quiet. Tucked away in Wayne County is the small town of Bicknell. This is truly a tiny town with approximately 300 residents but that doesn’t mean it has little to offer. In fact, if you are searching for some solitude, beauty, and peace, this is the place to go.
The community of Bicknell was established in 1879 by A.K. Thurber and was originally known as Thurber Town. Unfortunately, the area turned out to be difficult for farming, so in 1895, the community relocated to its present-day location.

In 1914, a 1,000-volume library was donated to the town by Thomas W. Bicknell. Two towns split the collection of books and Thurber Town was renamed Bicknell after the generous man who donated the library.

Bicknell not only has a slower pace that you’ll love, but it is absolutely beautiful. This small community is approximately 20 miles away from Capitol Reef National Park. You can always venture into the park, hike, camp, and enjoy incredible views during your visit to this tiny town.

If you wish to spend the day outdoors, hike the Sunglow Trail.

However, there are many features that make this trek worth it including a large tree growing out of a rock.
When your stomach starts to grumble, step inside the Sunglow Restaurant where you can enjoy a homecooked meal. Just make sure you save room for the famous pickle pie or pinto bean pie!
