Winter in Montana is magical. The snow-capped mountains, the cozy cafes that welcome us in for a warm drink, and the whole aesthetic of a winter wonderland no matter where you turn. Winter is the season for both reflection and tons of adventure. For most winter sports enthusiasts, that often means skiing. But for those with children or who would simply rather not ski, snow tubing in Montana is a wonderful way to embrace the season.

You’ll find plenty of hills all over our beautiful state perfect for enjoying a day of snow sports, but we highly recommend taking your tubes to Missoula’s Blue Mountain Recreation Area.

This 4,900-acre recreation area is popular in every season, especially in winter.

lvenegasp / TripAdvisor You’ll find ATV and motorcycle trails, horse and foot only trails, mountain biking trails, and, of course, some seriously perfect sledding and snow tubing hills.

Snow tubing is similar to sledding, but you’ll typically slide down the hill much faster.

You can also pull the tubes with your snowboard.

MIKI Yoshihito / Flickr At Blue Mountain, snowboarding is only allowed on Road #365.

Blue Mountain is an especially popular place for snow sports since it’s conveniently close to the city.

snow tubing in Montana December 31, 2021 Beth C. What should I put on my Montana bucket list? No matter what season you happen to be visiting Montana, there are certain attractions and adventures that merit a spot on your bucket list. Now that you’ve learned all about snow tubing in Montana, it’s time to consider the countless other experiences that await you in the Treasure State. And as you’ve probably guessed, most all of them involve the great outdoors! At the top of our list is, perhaps unsurprisingly, a trip to Glacier National Park. The crown jewel of Montana, this sweeping natural area will take your breath away in any season. To start, driving on the Going-to-the-Sun Road will offer gorgeous scenery of the park at every turn. Yet you’d be remiss to simply stay in the car. One of the most unique experiences at Glacier National Park is a boat tour of the picturesque Lake McDonald. You’ll also be tempted to go camping for a night of incredible stargazing. Next up on our Montana bucket list is spending time on Flathead Lake. Located in western Montana, this peaceful lake must be seen to be believed. Other bucket-list-worthy destinations in Montana include Makoshika State Park, Hyalite Creek Trail, Lolo Hot Springs, the M Trail, the Yellowstone River, the Madison River, the Morrell Falls National Recreation Trail, Seeley Lake, Whitefish Ski Resort, the Charles M. Russell Wildlife Refuge, and Kootenai Falls.
