Do you believe in ghosts? If not, you might just change your mind after an overnight stay at Connecticut’s most haunted inn. Captain Grant’s Inn is a beautiful bed and breakfast with a long history of opening its doors to welcome weary travelers since before the American Revolution. While the guests are continually changing, the inn has a few permanent residents… ghosts!
Built in 1754, Captain Grant’s is an extraordinary piece of Connecticut’s history. Located in Preston, the gorgeous bed and breakfast once sheltered Continental soldiers and provided a safe haven for runaway slaves.

Today, the inn provides wonderful accommodations to travelers looking for a historical spot for an overnight getaway. However, some guests have reported that they’ve had unexpected companions, especially in one particular room of the inn.

The Adelaide Room (pictured below), is apparently a hot spot for paranormal activity. A guest reported seeing a woman wearing colonial-era clothing with two children. Others have heard random knockings, the TV turn on and off sporadically, and have seen the shower curtain fall to the floor with no explanation.
TripAdvisor/management It was recently on the popular Netflix show, 28 Days Haunted where paranormal investigators spend some time in some of America’s most haunted locations.
The owners describe these reported spirits as being protective and friendly, even if a little spooky. Many guests stay at the inn without experiencing any haunting activity.

Captain Grant’s is open year-round, offering accommodations to those visiting the nearby casinos and other attractions. It also provides a (mostly) quiet escape - unless the ghosts show themselves.

Pick from one of the seven superbly decorated guest rooms. Those looking to mingle with spirits should choose The Adelaide. Others who want their privacy can choose from The Collette, The Marie, and others.

You’ll be treated to a fantastic breakfast. During the winter, enjoy your meal by a cozy fire and summertime dining can be enjoyed on the multi-level porch outdoors.

There’s also an expansive lawn and outdoor fire pit to enjoy some relaxing outdoor time. A game room offers a welcome diversion on rainy days.

Did we mention, Poquetanuck’s first cemetery is located directly behind Captain Grant’s? If the idea of spending the night with a few ghosts is appealing, head straight to Connecticut’s most haunted inn.

Haunted Places in Connecticut October 24, 2022 Jackie Ann Are there any haunted hiking trails in Connecticut? You might be surprised, but yes, there is a haunted hiking trail in Connecticut and it’s not part of an attraction or a Halloween event. The Pachaug State Forest is the largest forest in the state, so it naturally attracts outdoor explorers looking to surround themselves in a more natural setting, but there is one area that has had so many paranormal experiences, it’s believed to be haunted. Hell Hollow Road runs through the forest, and many years ago, there was a small community in the area. According to legend, a woman was killed by a Native American, and several hikers have claimed to have heard her screams, and a few have even seen her apparition, briefly. Can I visit any abandoned places in Connecticut? How about a haunted abandoned prison? You’ll find the New-Gate Prison in East Granby, and it might just be the most creepy abandoned place in Connecticut. The area was a colonial copper mine before it opened as a state prison in 1773, housing some of the most violent criminals in Connecticut. With no natural light in the cells and virtually no air circulation, conditions at this prison were some of the worst in the country. Twenty-three prisoners died within these walls before the prison was closed in 1803, and many believe that those restless souls are trapped within these walls. See for yourself on a ghost tour, where you just may hear disembodied screams, or you may even feel as though you’ve been grabbed or shoved. What are the most haunted places in Connecticut? Like most states, Connecticut is no stranger to the paranormal. Whether you’re fascinated by the “other side” or you’re just wanting to live life on the edge, there are plenty of haunted places in Connecticut where you can do your own investigation and come to your own conclusion. This road trip will take you to some of the most haunted places in the state, including haunted cemeteries, haunted roads, and even a haunted opera house.
