All Around Arkansas November 02, 2022 Rachel Raimondi Can I ride the Polar Express in Arkansas? One of the most enjoyable things about Christmas in Arkansas is the events. And like many other states, Arkansas has Polar Express trains and events in several areas. Over in Springdale, you and the family can take the Children’s Christmas Train during the holiday season. During this ride, you’ll travel from Emma Street Train Depot to Johnson in a beautifully decorated and festive train, and along the way, play games, sip hot cocoa, listen to stories, and of course, meet Santa Claus. What is Arkansas known for? Wondering what are some things that Arkansas is known for? Well, a lot. First off, in Murfreesboro, you’ll find the very only active diamond mine in America at Crater of Diamonds State Park. Then, of course, there are the hot springs, with 47 located within Hot Springs National Park and its 5,550 acres. There are also a lot of wild pigs in the state (which are unwanted) as well as chickens (which are very wanted). In fact, The Wonder State is the top exporter of chickens and Springdale is the home of Tyson Foods. And the big-box retailer known as Walmart actually opened its first store in Rogers in 1962. Are there any animal encounters in Arkansas? Whether it’s at a zoo, aquarium, or something a little different, there are plenty of places for animal encounters in Arkansas. The Arkansas Alligator Farm and Petting Zoo in Hot Springs is a great spot. Not only can you hold a baby alligator, but you can also pet and feed goats as well as observe an assortment of other animals like raccoons and mountain lions. There is also a museum, snack shop, and souvenir shop. If you are in or around Eureka Springs, consider heading to Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge. This 459-acre area is home to some of the biggest and baddest cats, such as tigers, lions, bobcats, and cougars. There are educational tours throughout the day as well as special events.
