The tower comes with a tragic tale, a legend that most locals know. It was named after Hannah Robinson, who was born to a wealthy Rhode Island businessman in 1746.

By all accounts, Hannah enjoyed a privileged life, one that would abruptly change when she fell in love with one of her teachers. The man, of course, was in a vastly different financial league than Hannah’s family.

The family would eventually reconcile, but by then it was too late. Hannah was terminally ill and would pass away when she was just 27.
