This home was originally built by C.A. Bliss in 1888. Bliss was a farmer who also bred shorthorns, but he lost the home to foreclosure to C.F Easton in 1893.
Easton Castle/O-TE-LA Conservatory/Facebook The Victorian mansion was kept in the Easton family for many years; Dr. Sam Holman, a veterinarian, purchased it in 1967 to preserve it from certain demolition. Members of the Holman family continue with the efforts to preserve this beautiful, 17-acre oasis. The home was placed on the National Registry of Historic Places in 1975.
The Easton Castle/O-TE-LA Conservancy works to preserve the home and property and keep it available to the public.

Bliss owned the castle. Baum visited the home for parties and even remarked about its unique library and other features.

In the yard, you’ll also find a sculpture called “The Gentle Doctor.” It’s a replica of a work of art that sits at the Iowa State University Veterinary College.

You can camp overnight on the grounds of the castle, and the estate also hosts occasional campfire parties.
