Editor’s Note: Since the publication of this article, Beethoven’s #9 Restaurant has permanently closed.

Kansas has a lot of German history, from the Volga-Germans who gave us bierocks to the families that still run restaurants to this day. One German place, in particular, not only serves up delicious German-style dishes but also schnitzel so big it nearly falls off the plate. Don’t believe me? Take a look for yourself!

Welcome to Beethoven’s #9 Restaurant, named after the music man himself. They’ve been around for about 20 years, and they pride themselves on making sure each dish is made with love.

Every schnitzel is unique, and no two are the same shape or size. However, sometimes you get one so large it hangs off the plate. Just how we like them.

The Jaeger Schnitzel is probably their most popular dish here, with most of the whole plate being covered by this tasty creation.

This dish is their Ingrid Schnitzel, topped with spinach and crab cakes. It almost looks like a happy face!

You’ll also find other German style foods like bratwurst or pretzels on their menu as well. No matter what your preferences, your taste buds will truly be satisfied here.

As with any small town restaurant, save room for dessert! They even have all sorts of sweets to choose from, but their carrot cake is by far my favorite.

You’ll find Beethoven’s #9 Restaurant at 2 W Piankishaw St., Paola, Kansas or by using the map below if you wish. Paola sits south of Olathe, between it and Osawatomie in the far eastern chunk of Kansas. They’re open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday through Sunday.

We can’t get enough of these small town restaurants, so when we find one we like, we hold onto it. Just like this restaurant that’s so Kansas, it’s named after our motto. Feel free to share your favorite Kansas restaurants in the comments below!
