Are you itching to see some Christmas lights in Kentucky this holiday season? Head on over to Louisville for Lights Under Louisville!
There are some attractions in Kentucky that are so popular – and so good – that a long line is inevitable. During the holiday season, it seems everyone in Kentucky heads to the state’s largest city for Lights Under Louisville, the only fully underground light display in the world. Held at the Mega Cavern, this one-of-a-kind attraction often comes with a very long wait.
However, you can avoid the lines by taking a ride on the Christmas Express. You can now purchase a ticket to hop aboard a tram and check out Kentucky’s marvelous Christmas Cave without waiting!
Lights Under Louisville is an incredible light display at the Mega Cavern, which includes 3,000,000 lights and 850 lit characters. It truly is the only attraction of its kind in the world, which explains why guests are often met with long lines. This Christmas cave in Kentucky is not like anything that you’ll find anywhere else!

There are specific directions on the Lights Under Louisville website directing you to the entrance, and there often is some sort of wait. Cars willingly line up to drive through the underground display, which takes about 30 minutes to complete.

While many avoid the cave because of the lines, most agree that any amount of wait is worth it. This year, Lights Under Louisville offers the Christmas Express, which may be the solution you’ve been looking for to avoid the lines.

The Christmas Express is a daytime ride through the display in an open-air trailer, similar to the one shown below. These vehicles are typically used for tours through the cave, so they’re perfect for this event.

You can purchase a ticket for the Christmas Express here, and times are offered both during the week and weekends. Since the cave is, of course, dark during the day, the lights are just as enchanting as they are at night.

The open-air vehicle will take you on the 30-minute drive through the lights, where you’ll be able to see them like never before. After the ride, children will receive a small toy, as well as milk and cookies in the cave’s Winter Wonderland.
Louisville Mega Cavern
Lights Under Louisville is a spectacular holiday event for Kentucky families, and everyone should experience it at least once. If you’ve been wary of the lines before, consider the Christmas Express as a unique way to view Kentucky’s marvelous Christmas Cave.
