To truly experience this magical place, stay overnight at its historic lodge. Crater Lake Lodge opened in 1915, and it’s full of historic charm. You’ll find it on the southwest rim, 1,000 feet above the lake. The original lodge was pretty simple, with a tar paper exterior and minimal electricity. Throughout the years, the lodge was updated a bit, but it underwent a major renovation in 1991. Some of the original features remain; others are new but styled to match the early 20th-century lodge.
