St. Vincent Asylum in Oklahoma City has a long and dark history that is still lingering in the heartland to this very day. The old insane abandoned OK asylum has been sitting vacant on NE 23rd Street for decades and has become a prime destination for ghost hunters and thrill seekers. The location is off-limits for visitors nowadays, but we found some rare photos of this creepy place courtesy of our good friends at Abandoned Oklahoma. Check them out, along with the tragic history that makes St. Vincent one of the creepiest places in Oklahoma.
St. Vincent began as a mental hospital in 1945, expanding rapidly over the next several years, while only treating male patients.
abandonedok.com St. Vincent Mental Asylum was operated by the Brothers of Mercy - a religious order providing care for the mentally ill. Starting in the 1960s, murders began to surface out of the asylum. The first known tragedy began when a nurse inexplicably suffocated two patients. Unfortunately, the tragedies didn’t end there.
The asylum was then run by a priest named Frank Dolan who turned it into a drug rehab center.
abandonedok.com Rev. Dolan also had an interesting past, as he was arrested for soliciting prostitution in 1984. Things again went horribly wrong when Father Dolan was killed on the property by the patients he was trying to help. The facility only lasted until the 1980s when it was shut down. The property is now believed to be haunted by tortured souls of the past.
The nursing order of Catholic brothers moved to the present location and built the ‘old’ section of the building in 1953.
abandonedok.com The hallways now have graffiti all over them and there is no flooring left but the original concrete slab.
The addition added several semi-private rooms with connecting baths, a lounge on each floor, nurses stations and a chapel.

Many rooms have a cold and eerie feeling and look like they were used for solitary confinement.

Of course, no abandoned asylum in OK would be complete without its ghosts. Many reports have surfaced about creepy things happening in the building.

The original alarm system is still hanging on the wall with panic buttons.
