There is something magical about sunrise and sunset. Both are governed by the sun showing up or descending to end the day. With the sun up, the day is filled with new beginnings and a new start. When the sun sets, you then know you have the closure of a busy day. The sun will play on certain shadows lighting them up and chasing away the darkness. The way the sky lights up in hues of colors really seems like something sweet each day. So we have two incredible sunrise and sunset spots in Tennessee for you that you must try. Starting with the best sunrise in Tennessee, this road trip is not to be missed!

With this road trip, you will of course be starting early. The trip will take you 3 hours and 39 minutes of driving time crossing over 173 miles of road.

Our day of scenic viewpoints in Tennessee starts at the iconic Roan Mountain. This is an incredible hike and many people call this the prettiest spot on the Appalachian Trail.

BlueRidgeKitties/ Flickr We suggest you keep it simple and start at Carvers Gap. Then hike the grassy hill into the woods. You will most definitely want to bring your headlamp or flashlight because it will be dark. Then hike on up to Round Bald to get an unobstructed view of the sun rising. Roan Mountain, TN 37687, USA

Park yourself with a blanket facing east and prepare for the spectacular show.

While you are up on the mountain you might as well enjoy the wonderful scenery when the sun fully rises. This is an absolutely beautiful area and a must-do in eastern Tennessee.

Drive on down the mountain and head on over to the Great Smoky Mountains.

If you want to stick to nature, we don’t blame you. Go on a hike or take in the sights. You can never go wrong when you are in the Smoky Mountains.

Once the time has come and the sun starts to go down head on over to Clingmans Dome.

SarahPrince09/ Flickr The drive through the park is beautiful and it just keeps getting better as you drive up to the parking area. When you get out of your car you may be tempted to just stay there because the overlook is just that good. But make sure to head on up further for a real treat. The hike up is short and paved but you will soon be at the highest point in all of the smokies.

Great Smoky Mountains National Park/ Flickr The dramatic effects that the sunset has on the clouds, and the shadows that develop around the peaks are phenomenal.

When you are in the tower you will have a full 360-degree view of the whole park. Soak it in and enjoy this amazing sunset.
