Winter in the Peach State is a magnificent time. True, much of the state doesn’t see much snow or frigid temperatures, but people who are not from here are often surprised to learn that it does snow in Georgia. Extreme winter weather is not uncommon in the northern mountainous regions of the state, which just so happens to be where a few of our natural wonders reside. One of the prettiest is Brasstown Bald, the tallest natural point in Georgia. It’s gorgeous at any time of year, but in winter, when covered in snow, it’s downright magical.

Brasstown Bald is tucked away in the northeast corner of the state. It’s part of the Blue Ridge Mountains and has that range’s distinctive bluish-colored haze that’s caused by trees that line the mountains.

At 4,784 feet above sea level, Brasstown Bald is the highest natural point in Georgia. On a clear day, you can see all the way to Atlanta from the top of the mountain!

You’re not likely to see quite that far in winter - it tends to be a good bit foggier in the cold months due to the sun’s angle making clouds more prominent.

However, a visit to Brasstown Bald in winter is still an unforgettable experience.
