Even if you live in Oregon, it’s possible and even likely that you’ve never heard of Cooper Spur Mountain Resort. This small, family-focused ski area is on the north side of Mount Hood, and it’s one of the oldest ski areas in North America. This lesser-known Oregon ski resort may be small, but it has a lot to offer its visitors and guests, and it’s a great place for a weekend getaway this winter.  Read on to learn more about it.

Cooper Spur may be small, but that’s what a lot of people like best about it. When you visit this resort, you feel like you’re part of a family. There are only 15 rooms, condos, and cabins in the entire resort. There’s only one two-person chairlift, and there are only 10 trails.

Tourists first came to the Cooper Spur property in the summer of 1888 to stay in tents and to participate in guided explorations of the area. The first inn, the Cloud Cap Inn, was built in 1889. The recorded ski trip in the area took place in 1890. In 1902, the first Snow Shoe Club formed.
