When thinking about New Jersey, the word “Countryside” doesn’t often come to mind. We’re the most densely populated state in the country – and we like it that way! But that doesn’t mean there aren’t some wonderful little spots to enjoy nature, and one rural restaurant in New Jersey offers the best of both worlds. Gronsky’s Milk House, an old-school diner and ice cream parlor in High Bridge, offers classic American food with some unique twists – and decorations. It’s only feet away from a beautiful riverside view, and many diners choose to eat their meal outside. It might be a pretty long drive to Gronsky’s – unless you’re on your way to a day of recreation at the Spruce Run Reservoir – but wherever you come from, you can guarantee it’ll be worth the trip.

Gronsky’s Milk House is hiding in a quiet area of High Bridge, and it feels like a portal to the past.

But in halfway decent weather, most people will choose to enjoy their food at the outdoor tables with a beautiful view of the river.

Not in the mood for something sweet? The corned beef has is probably the best in all of New Jersey - especially topped with a fried egg.

At lunch, you’ll be able to indulge in a wide variety of sandwiches and burgers - but the fried egg can stick around.

Gronsky’s has gained a reputation as one of the best cheesesteak spots on this side of the New Jersey/Pennsylvania border, and it’s likely large enough to share.

But make sure to save room for ice cream - Gronsky’s isn’t called a milk house without a reason, and the rich and creamy dessert is even better loaded with toppings.
