The park’s various hiking trails are a great way to explore this rich landscape, especially the Burnside Trail. This moderate hike takes you to a beautiful waterfall after three miles, and the gorgeous Burnside Lake after ten miles.

There’s an easier hiking trail called the Transition Walk that’s more suited for families and those looking for a casual stroll. This hike is more of a nature trail that loops around the park’s alpine meadow, and it’s stunning from beginning to end.

EDITOR’S NOTE: Unfortunately, the hot springs pools remain closed due to a fire that burned through the park in the summer of 2021. Day use of hiking trails and picnic areas are open, but the park is still in the process of rebuilding and refurnishing all that was damaged or destroyed in the fire.
