Say what you will about Hallmark Christmas movies, but they certainly have quite a large following. Washington has been the setting for several holiday Hallmark films in the past — and the most notable one was set in the charming island town of Friday Harbor. While most of the movie was actually filmed in Nova Scotia, they did a fantastic job of capturing Pacific Northwest vibes. Who remembers “Christmas With Holly?” It’s one of our favorite Hallmark movies filmed in Washington state!
Friday Harbor is the most prominent town on San Juan Island.
J. Stephen Conn / Flickr It’s both a year-round tourist destination and a beloved local spot.
“Christmas for Holly” was released in 2012, and it tells the tale of a young girl who has just lost her mother to a car accident at the age of six.
YouTube Movies / YouTube At the start of the film, sweet little Holly Nagle hadn’t spoken a word since her mother died.
Mark Nagle, Holly’s uncle and legal guardian, decides that it’s time for the two of them to start a new life.
YouTube Movies / YouTube They move from Seattle to Friday Harbor to live with Mark’s brothers in their vineyard.
In typical Hallmark movie fashion, Mark doesn’t stay lonely for long.
YouTube Movies / YouTube He and Holly soon meet Maggie Conway, who has also just moved to town. Maggie, who had recently been left at the altar by her fiance, is the new owner of a toy store in Friday Harbor.
It doesn’t take long for sparks to fly, and Mark and Maggie soon fall in love.
YouTube Movies / YouTube Maggie and Holly also form a special bond, and together, they begin a new life.
“Christmas With Holly” is the kind of good old-fashioned feel good flick we can all use right now.
Wikipedia Friday Harbor has always had a magical vibe, so the plot is pretty believable, even for a Hallmark movie.

Christmas in Washington November 03, 2022 Elisa Regulski What are the best drive-thru light shows in Washington? Eager to enjoy the holiday season? We recommend exploring The Lights of Christmas in Stanwood. This drive-thru light show glimmers and shines every year, and families have made it an annual tradition. Marvel at the gorgeous displays and watch colorful characters dance around you. Tune into radio station 101.9 to listen to jolly music. And the best part? All of this holiday magic is available from the warmth and comfort of your car! Curl up with a cup of hot cocoa and munch on some homemade cookies. There’s no better combination. Should I go hiking in winter in Washington? It’ll be cold, but you can definitely go hiking during winter in Washington. We particularly love exploring the Iceberg Point Trail on Lopez Island. This easy, three-mile loop is perfect for both beginners and avid hikers. Walk along gorgeous pathways and stare into shimmering waterfront views. Bring your family, and take your leashed dog along too! This lovely journey is perfect for the winter season. For more fun, meander through the Quartz Mountain Lookout Trail in Mount Spokane State Park. This area is beautiful year-round, but during winter it shimmers with an icy glow. The entire trail is 4.5 miles long, and you’ll enjoy every single step. Need more ideas? Check out the Icicle Gorge Trail inside the Wenatchee National Forest, near Leavenworth. There’s no shortage of fun you can have outside in Washington!
