Winter in Louisiana can be all over the place. You can be in a sweater in the morning, flip flops by lunch, and back under the blankets by sunset. Although Louisiana isn’t known for being a winter wonderland, the northern part of the state does see some snow, and if you time it right, you can experience one of the best winter towns in Louisiana: Homer.
This tiny little town in Claiborne Parish is home to about 2,500 people, and it’s the perfect winter town in Louisiana to visit when you need to escape the hustle and bustle of city life and find yourself in a more natural setting.

Housed in the former Claiborne Hotel, this museum focus on local history and culture covering everything from early pioneers and Native Americans to the oil boom and the L&NW Railroad.

The main attraction in Homer is Lake Claiborne State Park, and you’ll want to spend a few days here.

The 643-acre state park is nestled along the shores of Lake Claiborne, a 6,400-acre lake that’s a fisherman’s paradise.

Now, Claiborne State Park is beautiful year-round, but if you can time it during a snowfall, it becomes a magical winter wonderland to explore.

There are over 10 miles of hiking and biking trails to explore, which are just dreamy when covered in snow.

You’ve got plenty of options for lodging. The cabins are incredibly cozy and can sleep up to eight people.

If you didn’t catch anything on the lake, don’t worry, Port Au Prince Restaurant is located on the other side of the lake and offers spectacular dockside dining.
