Hikers in the Peach State truly have it good. No matter what part of the state you’re in, there are tons of great trails in Georgia. Many of the hikes in the North Georgia mountains simply can’t be beat. If you’re an experienced hiker who’s looking for a challenge, we’ve got just the treat for you. The 60-mile Georgia Loop trail in the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest is considered to be the most challenging hike in the entire state. Check it out:

It probably goes without saying based on the length alone, but this is a backcountry hike and beginners should most definitely not attempt to trek the entire trail. Of course, you can always opt for a shorter portion of the trail and just take an out-and-back route.

The Georgia Loop follows some of the most beautiful areas of the state. You’ll follow along several well-known trails, including the Appalachian Trail.

The entire thru-hike requires about 32 hours of hiking time, so obviously you’ll need to set up shelter for an overnight stay. Most experienced hikers take about 4-5 days to travel the trail.
