Perhaps you’ve heard of Marshall because of the South Mountain Overlook or the Kenda Drive-In, or maybe you know it as one of the gateways to the Buffalo National River. This means that it’s a hub for visitors who enjoy outdoor recreation. But did you know that this gorgeous small town is brimming with historic sites. In fact, the town boasts more historical landmarks in Arkansas than some of the larger towns in the state. And surprisingly enough, they might just have more historical sights than stoplights.
Nestled at the foothills of the Ozarks is the picturesque town of Marshall. This small town in Arkansas has approximately 1,300 residents based on recent census data.

Perhaps the most beautiful historic home is the Anthony Luna House. This Victorian style home was built in 1891 for Anthony Luna who was the sheriff of Searcy County. It once operated as a B&B, and has since been added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1993.

Located on Center Street, the Old Searcy County Jail was built in 1902. Once a jail house, the gorgeous two-story building is now a museum that is preserving the culture of the area. Visitors can tour the historic facility and learn all about the history of the town of Marshall.

Of course, if there is a historic jailhouse, there must be a courthouse as well. And the Searcy County Courthouse was originally built in 1889, and the beautifully constructed building was added to the national registry in 1976.

Another historic house known for its architecture is the Dr. Sam G. Daniel House. This Queen-Anne-style home is over 100 years old and it’s just a block away from the courthouse. So, you can easily stroll by and witness the lovely architectural structure for yourself.

Built around the 1900s, Mary Greenhaw Memorial Methodist Episcopal Church is a quaint historical building located on Nome Street. This Gothic-style church was inducted into the national registry in 2012.

Part of Arkansas’ hotel history is the Bates Tourist Court. This historic tourist camp can be compared to a modern-day motel. The camp has 4 small stone buildings, one of which operated as an office, and they were built around 1935.
