Colorado is a weird state, and we wouldn’t have it any other way! Even though a majority of our towns are wacky and wonderful, we also have some small towns in Colorado that can only be described as enchanting – like this one-of-a-kind community that is unlike any other in the world:

Welcome to Florissant!

TripAdvisor/ki0ki

Located 45 minutes west of Colorado Springs, Florissant is an unincorporated town that is home to less than 200 residents, but what it lacks in size, it makes up for twofold in charm and character.

Established in 1870, Florissant is a favorite for lovers of the great outdoors, thanks to its close proximity to hiking, camping, and skiing via Eleven Mile Canyon and Lake George.

Do you consider yourself a foodie (or like to eat)? Florissant even has a few can’t-miss local spots, including the Iron Tree Restaurant & Funky Town Brewery, Thunderbird Inn, and Costello Coffee House.

While all of the above is reason enough to visit, our favorite part of Florissant is that it houses the Florrisant Fossil Beds National Monument!

Established in 1969, the Florissant Fossil Beds are home to ancient petrified redwood stumps and thousands of fascinating plant and insect fossils.

As if the Monument wasn’t enchanting enough, Florissant is even a stop along the Gold Belt Tour: a stunning drive that features the diverse landscape and landmarks between Cripple Creek and Canon City.
