Not many people know that Tillamook Bay in Oregon was once the site of a significant WWII military operation. This operation provided U.S. armed forces with blimps that patrolled the waters of the Pacific. It was also home to an incredible secret bunker. Today, the bunker is abandoned and hidden beneath the lush greenery of the Oregon forest.

This now-overgrown military bunker in Oregon was constructed in 1943 as part of a larger complex known as Hangar B.

Hangar B was one of 17 secret hangars constructed across the country in response to the mounting worry that mainland USA would come under attack in the midst of World War II.

There are a total of five separate bunkers in the Tillamook Bay area. Winding paths lead from the ruins of the hangar to these abandoned places in Oregon.

Thick moss blankets the walls and roofs of the bunkers, causing them to blend into the surrounding forest as a means of camouflage.

The bunkers were originally used to store ammunition. They were also heavily reinforced.

Extensive blast walls were constructed to protect the explosives housed within the bunkers from possible enemy attacks.

Nearby, Hangar B still stands mostly intact. It’s known for being one of the largest structures of its kind, measuring 1,072 feet in length by 296 feet in width and 192 feet in height.

The hangar houses the remains of eight K-Class airships that once patrolled the Pacific coastline, along with plenty of dusty training equipment.

Originally, Hangar A was constructed immediately after Hangar B’s construction was completed at Naval Air Station Tillamook.

Hangar A was shockingly built in only 27 days in 1943, and one of the greatest successes of both hangar construction projects is that no workers were injured or killed during their builds.

However, a large fire claimed Hangar A in 1992. The facility was a complete loss.
