In the town of Lebanon, Ohio resides The Golden Lamb, an inn and restaurant that has been open since 1803, well before the Civil War. This is a place that is full of history and has been visited by several Presidents and other luminaries over the years. Let’s take a look at one of the oldest restaurants in Ohio.

The style of this building certainly harkens back to times long past. The Colonial architecture inspires images of horse-drawn carriages bearing visitors to and from this historic place.

The quaint and charming interior makes one feel like they’ve stepped into history and, in a way, they are. Visitors eat in the same room where Mark Twain, Charles Dickens, and several Presidents have eaten. In fact, this room is called The Dickens Room.

Visitors are also welcome to take a seat at this elegant bar, where there is an extensive list of fine wines and pretty much any cocktail you can think of.

The German culture that is prevalent in Ohio has made the appetizer known as sauerkraut balls a local favorite. They’re deep-fried balls of spices, pork, and sauerkraut that are delightful. They’re served with cocktail sauce and spicy mustard.

It wouldn’t be the Golden Lamb if there weren’t lamb shanks that look and taste like they’re worth their weight in gold. This is braised free-range Pennsylvania lamb with parmesan polenta, cabernet-infused braising liquid, and lemon herb gremolata.

There’s nothing like a spectacularly made fried chicken dish. These are served with skillet gravy, mashed potatoes, and fresh, seasonal vegetables. The Golden Lamb has dishes as elegant as Chateaubriand and as classic and simple as a great burger.

This is just a partial list of the famous people who have eaten and stayed here. If you choose to book a room as well as enjoy the amazing restaurant, you might sleep in the same bed that’s been slept in by former Presidents and authors!
