Macy’s was founded in 1858 by Rowland Hussey Macy. Today, Macy’s has more than 500 stores. However, none is as big as the company’s flagship store in Manhattan. Not only is Macy’s Herald Square the largest department store in New York, but it’s one of the largest stores in the entire world. Macy’s Herald Square is located at the intersection of 34th Street, Broadway, and Sixth Avenue. It opened in this location in 1902 and it was added to the National Register of Historic Places and was made a National Historic Landmark in 1978.
