Abandoned places are so eerie. Let’s take a look back in time at the remains of Sunrise Resort. This was a once-thriving vacation area in East Haddam. These photos, taken in 2011, show a vivid scene of bittersweet nostalgia. The state of Connecticut demolished these decrepit buildings in 2013, but the photos bring back of whirlwind of memories. Ohio is known as the Mother of Presidents as seven U.S. presidents were born in the Buckeye State. (Ohio also claims bragging rights to William Henry Harrison, who was born in Virginia but settled in Ohio.) Among the ranks, James. A Garfield was born in Orange Township (now Moreland Hills), a beautiful locale in the Greater Cleveland area. He passed away in 1881, and Lake View Cemetery was chosen as his final resting place....

Utah winters are wonderful. We enjoy tons of powdery snow in the mountains, which is perfect for skiing, snowboarding, and snowshoeing. The Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is the world’s busiest airport, but surprisingly enough, there aren’t too many places to dine with runway views....

It’s really no wonder that Yankee Magazine/New England Today named New Castle, New Hampshire one of the 10 Prettiest Coastal Towns in New England. The smallest town in New Hampshire and the only town located entirely on islands, New Castle’s natural beauty is certainly deserving of the honor. Great Island Common is a gorgeous spot to get up early and watch the sunrise over the Atlantic Ocean beyond Whaleback Lighthouse. First established in 1830 on a rocky outcrop off the coast of Kittery, Maine, the current station was constructed in 1872....

South Carolina’s history with plagues is no more apparent than it is in the ruins of the long-shuttered tuberculosis sanatorium now boarded up, abandoned, and decaying in a wooded, vine-covered area of a health complex in Columbia, known as State Park. It was here in 1938 that a new sanatorium opened providing 238 much-needed beds for those suffering from the infliction of this condition with no cure. For many, being diagnosed with TB was a death sentence, but at the very least it meant being sentenced to quarantine at one of the state’s scattered “sans,” short for sanatoriums....
