Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis once said, “If we don’t care about our past, we cannot hope for the future… I care desperately about saving old buildings.” And it was in this same spirit that an amazing historic homestead in South Carolina was rescued from the plans for its impending destruction in a controlled burn for firefighter training. Instead, Dr. Frank Fairey, a Rock Hill surgeon who had a great interest in historical artifacts and the preservation of history, and his wife purchased an option on the house from its owners, the City of Rock Hill, just before the burn was about to begin, moved it to its current location and carefully remodeled it, preserving its architectural character....
