Welcome to the charming small town of Wakeeney, Kansas. They’ve had a sparkling Christmas street for 69 years now, and their lights proudly light up the prairie sky.

It’s considered the largest Christmas display between Kansas City and Denver, with about 3 miles of lights. However what is more impressive, is the 35-foot tree made of fresh pine greenery and the blocks of fresh greenery, and homemade wreaths.

Wakeeney has been the Christmas City of the High Plains since that day in 1950 when locals designed and built this idea from their own minds, and volunteers spent hours helping over the years.

It may only be a few thousand lights, but it’s a few thousand well-arranged! They keep the lights classic and beautiful, to keep the tradition alive. We think it’s a perfect night to enjoy the holidays with family and a steaming hot chocolate.

The next date for this Christmas celebration is in November. The first lighting is always the most magical! They light the sky with magic the Saturday following Thanksgiving every year. You can enjoy the lighting every night until New Year’s Day.
