The Peach State is a beautiful place, but that doesn’t mean we aren’t home to many allegedly haunted places. There are plenty of urban legends in Georgia, and many of them have to do with Spook Bridge. This “bridge to nowhere” in Georgia is right on the county line between Lowndes and Brooks Counties, not far from Quitman. The dilapidated bridge has not been in use for decades, and it no longer even leads anywhere. The road it was once part of has long since been closed down. Spook Bridge is closed off to visitors, but it’s the source of many rumors and urban legends in the area. It’s said to be the site of several murders and suicides. Many who have trespassed on the bridge claim to have experienced eerie presences or heard unusual sounds. Read on to learn more about this haunted bridge in Georgia, if you dare.

Spook Bridge spans the Withlacoochee River and was once part of Old Quitman Highway.

The bridge is said to have been completed around 1920. A popular resort was located nearby that drew many travelers to the area.

By the 1950s, the resort had begun to fade in popularity. Flooding washed away parts of Old Quitman Highway. By the 1970s, there was not much need for the bridge anymore and it was closed to traffic due to being unsafe.

Though people were not technically allowed onto the bridge, it became a popular spot for teenagers to hang out. Graffiti appeared all over the bridge, some of it satanic in nature. It was rumored to be the meeting site of several cults.

There was even a horror film, “Spook Bridge,” filmed here in 2016.

Seth Smith/Google Maps The movie tells the fictional story of a local reporter investigating the deaths of teenagers who fell off the bridge. Watch the trailer for Spook Bridge - if you dare - it looks pretty creepy:

More haunted places in Georgia January 30, 2023 Chris Muras What are some haunted places in GA? Georgia certainly has some ghost stories to tell. Each of those stories tells a tale of tragedy, mayhem, and downright creepiness. if you can handle a little scare, read more about a few haunted places in Georgia below:

Central State Hospital Bungalow, Milledgeville, GA: Central State Hospital is one of the creepiest places in the entire state, so what would it feel like to stay overnight in one of the cottages on the premises? You can do so in this renovated 1920s bungalow. If you aren’t afraid of ghosts that is. Bonaventure Cemetery, Savannah, GA: Savannah, Georgia is known as one of the most haunted cities in the nation, and this cemetery might just be the reason why. A child’s laughter is the most soothing thing you can hear unless it’s at two in the morning in a haunted cemetery… Old Ghost Road, Brooklet, GA: Creepy glowing orange lights, a man digging a ditch alongside the road, ghost dogs digging up their owner’s graves.. these are only a few of the things people state that they have experienced on this lonely old Georgia road. Forsyth Park, Savannah, GA: The ghosts of Savannah strike again in this beautiful park (by daylight). At night, Lottie Churchill haunts a mansion in Forsyth Park. Her story is so tragic you’ll have to read it for yourself. In fact, there are several inns and hotels in the park that are believed to be haunted, each with its own stories to tell.
