Few people realize that there are a handful of castles located in Ohio. One of the most distinct is hidden away within the North Chagrin Reservation, and if you’ve yet to visit, you’re in for an impressive adventure. The castle is accessible via a 3-mile loop that offers beautiful scenery at every turn. Of course, Squire’s Castle in Ohio is the crown jewel of this trail, offering a glimpse of architecture otherwise uncommon to the Buckeye State. Here’s more on this little-known castle hike that will impress just about everyone.

Modeled after German and English baronial castles, Squire’s Castle is a stunning gatehouse that dates back to the 1890s. If you’re ever visiting the North Chagrin Reservation, this castle is truly a must-see landmark.

What’s fascinating about Squire’s Castle is that it’s incomplete. Developers of the property went bankrupt in 1922, and the Cleveland Park Board purchased the land in 1925.
