A weekend getaway soothes the soul and gives us a much-needed break from the grind of everyday life. That presents us with something of a catch-22. Missouri provides us with so many amazing weekend destinations, but that alone makes it hard to choose where to spend our precious few days off. For a delightful weekend of wining, dining and exploring, you really can’t go wrong with a few days in the Little Germany of Missouri.

With a population of just over 2,200, the small town of Hermann oozes charm and celebrates its rich German heritage, making it a prime destination for a weekend getaway.

Snuggled along the Missouri River, Hermann got its start in 1837 when George Bayer purchased 11,000 acres that comprise the town. Soon thereafter, German immigrants made their way from Pennsylvania to settle in and help develop the small riverside town.

Hermann’s terrain was quite rugged, which made it perfect for planting vineyards. It should come as little surprise, then, that Hermann has become a significant part of wine country in Missouri.
