We’ve boasted some pretty beautiful train rides through the state of Georgia. From holiday excursions to beautiful day trips, Georgia has its fair share of adventures to take. But there is one that might have been overlooked and is an inexpensive way to see much of the state. While we rave about trains like the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway and the SAM Shortline Train, there is another train that is always there, flying under the radar – Amtrak. With services throughout the state, come see the Amtrack route from Atlanta that takes you to beautiful Toccoa, Georgia within a few hours and for $25 each way. Come ride through Georgia’s small towns and mountains aboard the Amtrak train.

Amtrak Routes From Atlanta October 29, 2022 AnneMarie Are there other types of train rides in Georgia? Oh, but there are! In St. Marys, you can take a one hour, 15 minute ride in a vintage 1950’s passenger car, on the open-air rail cars, in an authentic locomotive, or in a caboose on St. Marys Railroad through scenic woodlands and marshlands. Close to Halloween, experience a haunted train ride at the Pine Mountain God Museum in Villa Rica. During the Christmas season, enjoy one of the most treasured train rides in the state, the Polar Express on The Santa Express train in Blue Ridge.  What is the most scenic town in Georgia? For Georgia countryside scenery, you don’t want to miss the town of Dial. If you’re wanting more of the natural wonder type of views, check out Lumpkin to see Providence Canyon, nicknamed “The Little Grand Canyon,” and Stone Mountain. And for other types of natural beauty, you’ll find sights of Spanish Moss and driftwood on Jekyll Island and the lush Gibbs Gardens in Ball Ground. Some would say that Helen is the most scenic of all towns in Georgia, being the filming location for over a half a dozen movies, including two Lifetime Channel movies. And then there’s Dahlonega as well, where a 2016 Hallmark Christmas movie was filmed! What are the most highly rated restaurants in Georgia? For Mediterranean type cuisine, we suggest trying Aviva by Kameel in Atlanta, Yoder’s Restaurant in Montezuma for cafeteria style southern comfort food, Joe’s Homemade Cafe for a pet-friendly sandwich lunch spot in Savannah, Frog Hollow Tavern in Augusta for seasonally-inspired dishes and a huge wine menu, and The Olde Pink House, also in Savannah, for classic Southern fare in a charming historic atmosphere. This is just a start. There are lots of other highly rated restaurants in Georgia to explore. What’s your favorite? Share with us in the comments!
