Many of our state’s residents are extremely wealthy. With that being said, it is also home to many low-income residents in the poorest counties in Alabama. We compiled a list of the poorest counties in Alabama. The 2010 United States Census Data tells us that the residents of the following 13 counties in Alabama bring in the least amount of income. But just because the residents in these places don’t bring in a lot of money doesn’t mean there isn’t a lot to love about these places. In fact, even when looking at the pictures below, you will see how beautiful they are. They also feature some really nice towns and local favorite restaurants that have that quirky charm that everyone loves. So while it’s interesting to note which counties bring in the most or least income, don’t forget that that doesn’t completely define any location.

Many places in Alabama have a much lower cost of living than others. For these particular places, low-income residents can make do, as these counties include some of the poorest towns in Alabama. Rent tends to be lower and the cost of goods tends to be more affordable, so it’s more possible to live here. Larger cities have a much higher cost of living. For these particular places, low-income residents might have a harder time, as everything costs more when most residents make higher amounts of money. However, those who are working in larger cities normally bring home a larger paycheck than those who are working in smaller towns. So, it can even out, but sometimes the ratio isn’t quite equal, so it can be easier to live in the above counties than others.
