Christmas in Oklahoma October 24, 2022 Chris Muras What is there to do in Oklahoma for Christmas? Looking for something fun to do this Christmas season? Oklahoma has plenty of festive activities to enjoy, no matter what your interests are. For starters, check out the holiday lights at the Myriad Botanical Gardens in Oklahoma City. The gardens are transformed into a winter wonderland with over a million twinkling lights, making it a perfect place to take a stroll and get into the holiday spirit. Or, if you’re looking for something more active, head to the Tishomingo National Wildlife Refuge for some holiday hiking. The refuge offers 7 miles of hiking trails where you can hike under the stars. And if you’re in the Tulsa area swing on by the Winter Wonderland at Gathering Place. Enjoy carolers, performances, festive food, and even a ride on the Winter Wonderland Express through the park. Does it snow in Oklahoma City in December? Oklahoma is a mild weather state, but there are parts that get a fair amount of snow. Mostly in the northwestern part near the panhandle. Oklahoma City itself, being in more central Oklahoma gets less snowfall, but they do usually have a white Christmas. An interesting fact though is that it has only snowed four times on Christmas Day itself since record-keeping has been done. A typical December in Oklahoma City will see between 1-5 inches in the front half and 2-7 inches around Christmas time. In 2009, Oklahoma City was surprised with a Christmas Eve gift of 14 inches of snow in the biggest blizzard on record. Where is the best place to eat on Christmas Day in Oklahoma? Some families get together for a big Christmas dinner, but if you like to try new restaurants on Christmas Day where should you go if you are in the Oklahoma City area over the holidays? Cafe Cuvee in The Ambassador Hotel off of North Walker Avenue serves a special three-course holiday meal on Christmas Day that will have you thanking Santa for all your blessings. This French bistro knows how to awaken your tastebuds and delight you with a charming ambiance. Perfect for a Christmas date night with that special someone.
