Missouri has its fair share of abandoned places, but something about an abandoned school makes it even creepier. The Carr School in St. Louis once was full of students, but not its only visitors are small street animals and vandals. Let’s take a closer look at this abandoned school in St. Louis.

The Carr School was designed by William B. Ittner and built in 1908. Unfortunately, the school closed down in 1983.

It is believed that the architect, Ittner, met artist Henry Chapman Mercer at the World’s Fair and hired him to create the beautiful mosaic art that adorns much of the school.

Carr Square Tenants’ Association took over the property in hopes of turning it into housing for the elderly. However, that plan fell through and the building remains abandoned.

It continues to crumble away every day, most noted in its sinking roof.

The boarded-up windows and doors haven’t stopped vandals from breaking in or tagging the walls with graffiti.

The building is listed under Landmarks Association’s most endangered buildings in St. Louis and is regularly threatened with demolition.
