Tobogganing in Cleveland? Absolutely! As Northeast Ohio cools down, many locals prefer to retreat into the cozy comfort of their homes. While cozying up under a blanket does sound inviting, such inactivity can result in cabin fever. Clevelanders know this sickness all too well – the landscape appears gray and dull, and it feels there is nothing to do outdoors now that winter has arrived. Of course, this is a mere state of mind. The truth is that our landscape becomes a winter wonderland as temperatures drop and snow arrives, particularly in the eternally lovely Cleveland Metroparks.
As snow begins to fall, there’s nothing quite like the icy thrill of rushing down a toboggan chute.
Cleveland Metroparks/Facebook This super-speedy style of sledding hails from northern Canada, perfected by the Innu and Cree.
However, no snow is required for wintry fun at The Chalet in Mill Stream Run Reservation.
Cleveland Metroparks/Facebook Typically, the underside of the toboggan rests directly on the snow, but such is a mere accessory at The Chalet.
These twin chutes are refrigerated, allowing them to operate from the day after Thanksgiving through the first weekend in March.
Cleveland Metroparks/Facebook Operation is weather permitting, of course, but a lack of snow certainly won’t slow you down. Open hours vary from month to month, so check the park website before you head out.
With an impressive 700 feet of chutes, The Chalet has become Clevelanders’ go-to destination for wintertime fun.
Cleveland Metroparks/Facebook Be prepared for a workout, though, as you’ll have to climb 108 steps to reach the top of this snowy run! Don’t forget to bring along a pair of gloves or mittens, as are required to ride. You’ll be tightly gripping a handle and braving the cold wind during your descent.
You can purchase tickets for a single ride or an all-day pass. The latter option is obviously a fan favorite.

Remember to dress in layers, because you are sure to encounter some chilly temperatures as you climb up and zip down this epic wintertime slide.

tobogganing in Cleveland December 09, 2022 Sarah M. What are some other places to go for sledding or tobogganing in Cleveland? We embrace winter here in Cleveland, Ohio, and if you’re into sledding and tobogganing, be sure to check out the following parks and hills:
Big Met Golf Course - Rocky River Reservation. Rocky River is actually a superb place to go sledding! There are notable hills at Big Met, Little Met, and Mastick Woods Golf Course. Just be sure to bundle up, because this rolling landscape can feel a bit windy. If you do decide to pay Big Met Golf Course a visit, swing by Tee #11 to experience a gentler slope that’s great for kids. Nearby fireplaces await the opportunity to defrost you and your companions. Chapin Forest Reservation. The sledding hill at Chapin Forest Reservation is widely regarded as one of the best sledding hills in Cleveland for kids, and as it is open until 11 p.m., it might be the perfect way for grownups to unwind after work, as well! State Road Sledding Hill - Hinckley Reservation. Located within the Hinckley Reservation, this slope is one of the steepest and longest in the Metroparks, and boy does its incline provide some speed! The only downside is that this steep behemoth of a landmark can be a bit of a pain to climb back up… but that’s 100% part of the experience! Headlands Beach Sledding Hill - Headlands Beach State Park. No matter the time of year, Headlands Beach State Park is one of the best day trip destinations near Cleveland. The park is beautiful in every season, as Mentor natives can tell you. When there is plenty of snow and just a bit of sunshine, this park is perfect for both sledding and cross-country skiing.
