There’s something so alluring about swinging bridges. Perhaps it’s the historic architecture of these bridges that have existed in Virginia for centuries that makes us nostalgic for the past. Or maybe it’s the sense of adventure from crossing a safe but not-so-sturdy structure that gives us a rush of adrenaline. No matter the reason, we’re fortunate to have several swinging bridges just ready to be crossed. Today, we’ll introduce you to a lesser-known destination known as the Clinchport Suspension Bridge, also known as the Clinchport Swinging Bridge. Measuring nearly 300 feet in length, this bridge promises quite an adventure.

Today’s feature destination takes us to the beautiful region of southwestern Virginia, where we’ll follow U.S. Route 23 to the Clinchport Suspension Bridge.

Perhaps what makes this bridge so adrenaline-inducing is the fact that there isn’t much in the way of hand railings or side guards.
