The holiday and winter season in Ohio is downright magical. Neighborhoods are decked out in holiday decor, drive-thru light displays shine merry and bright and big city window displays make you long for Christmases past. (Be sure to check out the longest drive-thru light display in Ohio this season, too!) The one thing that makes the holiday season and winter months complete, however, is gliding across a frosty ice-skating rink, taking in the sights and sounds of the season. Here’s what to expect at Lock 3 Akron, the largest ice skating rink in Ohio:
Lock 3 Akron features a 10,000-sq. ft. seasonal ice skating rink, making it the largest in Ohio.

This year’s Winter Blast Kickoff opening celebration at Lock 3 will take place on Friday, November 25 from 11 a.m. - 11 p.m.
Lock 3 Akron, Ohio/Facebook As in years past, the celebration will include an illuminated holiday parade to welcome Santa, tree lighting ceremony, and fireworks show. Visitors can expect the whole area to be completely decked out for the holiday season, with Christmas trees and colorful lights everywhere!
Admission to the ice skating rink is $3 if you bring your own skates and admission with skate rental is $5.

During the opening celebration, you’ll also get to see some spectacular fireworks and even catch a glimpse of Santa.

One of our favorite outdoor activities during the winter in Ohio is tubing… and Mad River Mountain is the place to do it. Although ski resorts and chair lifts are probably some of the last things that come to mind when you think of Ohio, you should know that Ohio is home to a pretty epic winter resort. Mad River Mountain in Zanesfield, Ohio features all the wintertime fun you could possibly want… and then some. It’s the largest ski and tubing resort in Ohio, featuring 144 acres of pure, unadulterated, high-flying fun! What else is there to do at Lock 3 Park in Akron, Ohio? Lock 3 Park is one of the most beloved destinations in Akron – and for good reason. A true community hub, this outdoor park hosts numerous seasonal concerts, ice skating, fireworks, a farmer’s market, holiday lights, and other special events.
