Oklahoma has some pretty creepy urban legends and adding to that list is the story of The Purple Church in the small town of Spencer, just outside of Oklahoma City. It’s known as one of the most haunted places in the state and is said to be a gateway to the underworld. Even the boldest of paranormal investigators balk at the idea of risking it at this haunted location. Take a look at this eerie place that you may, or may not, depending on how brave you are, want to stay far away from.

The Purple Church is the site of a former church that was torn down and all that remains is the concrete slab and basement. It is called the Purple Church because it’s decorated with Satanic purple pentagrams and symbols from spray paint.

Pull Over Adventures/Youtube At first glance it might just look like a tunnel, but hidden in the middle of an abandoned, rural area, the basement takes on a much more concerning aura.

If you head down Douglas Street in Spencer, Oklahoma, until it ends and turns into Wilshire Blvd, you’ll encounter a road that looks a bit haunted. Look for the gate off to the side like the one below.

Pull Over Adventures/Youtube The gate is there for good reason. Some people have gone to investigate The Purple Church and never come back. But if you’re feeling bold enough, head down that lane.

It’s located on private property…so if you want to visit this location, you must get permission first. (The area is monitored, so we are serious when we say get permission.)

Pull Over Adventures/Youtube If you don’t, you’re going to be contending with more than just monsters and eternal hell.

If, and only if you get permission, follow the trail back, veer off to the left and you’ll come to an area that looks like an old storm cellar.

Pull Over Adventures/Youtube We won’t blame you if you turn back at this point. Going into that basement is a terrifying prospect considering the stories people tell about The Purple Church.

According to reports, the church has been the location of many Satanic rituals. Visitors report being touched and scratched, strange noises have been heard and many more paranormal events have taken place.

Pull Over Adventures/Youtube Legend has it that on a full moon, satanic worshippers make virgin or newborn sacrifices from this space. The human sacrifices remain unproven, but mutilated animals and animal bones have been found strewn on trees and in makeshift altars on the path leading to The Purple Church.

People say that Sean Sellers, a 16 year old who murdered his family, was heavily involved in making The Purple Church a place of satanic worship. That hasn’t been confirmed but do you really want to risk treading on a murderer’s territory?

Pull Over Adventures/Youtube Most people are too afraid to go down the stairs, but if you muster up the nerve, make sure someone is waiting to confirm you make your way back out. After all the creepy stories of haunted things happening, it’s always better to be safe than sorry.

Lots and lots of dead animal carcasses have been photographed, which supports the claim that animal sacrifices often occur at The Purple Church. Many who visit have reported an ominous feeling so heavy, they had to immediately leave. Nowadays there are also the neighbors to content with. The locals are so tired of people visiting and causing trouble while doing so that they’re wont to confront people who head to The Purple Church looking for a thrill. Many have claimed they’ve been chased by a black pickup truck with no headlights, it’s unclear whether the driver is a satanic monster or a frustrated neighbor.
