It’s funny how, depending on what you like to do, you love a state for different reasons. For some, Montana is the best place in the world during summer. The greens are greener and the wide-open sky is vibrantly blue. Hikes are more fun, lakes are more refreshing, and there’s no other time you’d rather be here. For others, Montana only exists in the winter. The summer doesn’t offer skiing, backcountry camping, or the adventures that exist when the weather is cold. We can undoubtedly appreciate both of those viewpoints, but today we’re focused on winter. This winter destination in Montana is certainly one of our favorites and we think you’ll love it too!
Seeley Lake, located about one hour north of Missoula, is often overshadowed by other nearby winter towns, but we think this little spot is great all on its own.

While there are certainly plenty of places to stay in nearby Whitefish, we love the idea of a winter stay at Tamaracks Resort.

Ice fishing is another great activity to enjoy. Just be sure to bundle up. There’s certainly a stark difference between summers on the lake and ice fishing temps!

While these outdoor activities are great, we particularly love timing a visit to coincide with the annual Seeley Lake Winterfest, which typically takes place at the end of January.

There are tons of fun winter activities to enjoy over the course of two weekends. Ice skating is great for the whole family.

But, there’s more to Winterfest than that. Plan on enjoying things like snow sculptures, the Annual Christmas tree bonfire, and the famous Race to Winterfest Parade.
