The lake is located in Ernest E. Debs Regional Park, a nature reserve and regional park in the Montecito Hills neighborhood, located in central-northeast Los Angeles.

The park is maintained by the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks – it’s named after a former county supervisor.

The city acquired land for the park between 1948 and 1963 and today it contains 282 acres of SoCal walnut groves and woodlands, as well as the Audubon Center at Debs Park, which offers nature programming.
