Looking for a truly authentic colonial New England experience? It doesn’t get much better than the Webb-Deane-Stevens Museum in Connecticut. It’s located right in the middle of Old Wethersfield, the largest historic district in the state. The town boasts over 1,000 buildings dating from the 17th to 19th centuries, and is an area with a truly fascinating history.
The museum is actually made up of three houses: the Joseph Webb house (1752), the Silas Deane house (1769), and the Isaac Stevens house (1789). The homes are all next door to one another.

Historical reenactments regularly occur at the museum.
Webb-Deane-Stevens Museum/Facebook Programs for schoolchildren are also offered, including classes on slavery, colonial medicine, and food from the colonial time period.
Joseph Webb’s home is of particular historical importance. Webb was an extremely successful merchant. George Washington stayed in his home for several nights and even met with Revolutionary generals in the house.

The reconstructed Webb Barn is also on site. It is used for classes and can also be rented out for weddings and other parties.

The Silas Deane home actually played host to both George Washington and John Adams. Silas Deane was a lawyer and served on the Continental Congress.
