Today, Wisconsin Dells is home to countless parks, sites, and attractions. However, none quite compare to the Wonder Spot in the Wisconsin Dells, a beloved gravity-defying attraction from decades ago. Despite being torn down several years back, it still holds a special place in the hearts of Wisconsinites everywhere. Take a look:

Opened in 1952, Wonder Spot was touted as a place “where the laws of natural gravity seem to be repealed.”

Hidden in the woods of Lake Delton, visitors had to trek down a ravine to reach the single-cabin attraction.

Once at the cabin, lots of laughs (and, for some, bouts of nausea) ensued as visitors of all ages struggled to stand up straight…but that’s not all.

At Wonder Spot, water flowed backwards and chairs were able to balance on two legs.

According to guides of the day, the cabin’s lack of gravity was the result of strange rock formations in the area.

The real source of Wonder Spot’s wonder, though, was its unique construction.

The Wonder Spot/Facebook Built perpendicular to a beautiful hillside, visitors were being entertained by nothing more than optical illusions.

Whatever the reason, Wonder Spot was a favorite of the young and old alike.

The Wonder Spot/Facebook And for many, visiting became somewhat of a tradition.

By the mid-’90s, Wonder Spot had about 50,000 visitors per summer!

The Wonder Spot/Facebook Unfortunately, as the number of waterparks in Wisconsin Dells increased, visitors to Wonder Spot decreased.

In 2006, Wonder Spot closed for good. And in 2007, the site was sold and bulldozed to make room for a road.

Going out with a bang, it was the oldest permitted attraction in the Wisconsin Dells area at the time of its closing.

Wonder Spot may be long gone, but it continues to entertain via YouTube. Watch the video below to see Wonder Spot in action.
